1. What is a School Profile?
Since the passage of the Education Act 2005, Governing Bodies are
required to produce a school profile, which is designed for schools
to communicate with parents about the school's progress, priorities
and performance. Profiles are completed and published online.

2. Which schools need to complete a school profile?
All maintained schools except nurseries need to publish a school
profile. Maintained nursery schools continue to produce a governors'
annual report. City technology colleges (except those due to become
academies in current academic year) are required to complete a school
profile. Non-maintained schools, independent schools and academies
are not required to complete a school profile, and will not be able
to log on to the secure school profile website.

3. What is in the school profile?
The profile was designed after extensive consultation with schools,
local authorities, governors, parents and pupils, and has been improved
in line with feedback received from those completing it. The profile
contains, where relevant:
- data provided and updated by the DCSF on an annual basis;
- a summary of the latest Ofsted report provided by the DCSF
and updated at least every three years;
- narrative sections written by the school, updated at least
once every academic year.
The narrative sections include the following
headings:
- What have been our successes this year?
- What are we trying to improve?
- How have our results changed over time?
- How are we making sure that every child receives teaching
to meet their individual needs?
- How do we make sure our pupils are healthy, safe and well-supported?
- What have we done in response to our Ofsted report?
- How are we working with parents and the community?
Schools with sixth forms and those commissioning alternative provision
for their pupils complete a further series of questions in addition
to these.

4. How often do I have to publish a school profile?
The statutory requirement is to publish a school profile once each
school profile academic year. You can update and republish your
profile more often if you want to but you must do it once a year.
Once you have published a profile you will then be able to update
that text instead of having to start from a blank template.
Your profile should be about the most recent activities and successes
of your school.
